On June 30th, New Jersey pop/rock artist Mistine will be releasing her debut EP, “Fade”, on all streaming platforms. Having toured with such pop acts as Conan Gray, WizTheMC, and Zeph, Mistine is ready to share her new nostalgia-inspired tunes with the world. She’s already released two singles from her EP (“Temporary Feeling” and “Everett Park”), both of which have over 24,000 plays on Spotify. On July 2nd, you can catch Mistine performing live at Pianos in New York City where The Luna Collective will be hosting her EP release party. There, Mistine will be accompanied by longtime friend Viiq on piano. The “Fade” EP is indeed a breath of fresh air — a dreamy, nostalgic, freeing ride that will be sure to rise to the top of your playlists, a must-listen to usher in the summer.
What’s your name, where are you from, and what do you do?
Hi. My name is Mistine! I was born in Vermont and grew up in New Jersey. I make music!
How would you describe your musical style? Who are your musical influences?
I would like to self-proclaim my songs as “windows down” music. Music that is perfect to drive with the windows down and sing along with your friends.
I grew up falling in love with bands like Aerosmith, Heart, and Green Day. Today, I spend a lot of time listening to The 1975 and Maggie Rogers.
Congrats on the release of your debut EP, "Fade"! How long was your EP in the works? What can you tell us about the inspiration behind it, as well as the recording process? Who did you work with?
Thank you so much! I appreciate you listening! I think I wrote the first song back in March 2020. Everything kinda fell off the rails during the beginning of the pandemic, but I seriously picked this project back up last spring. All of the songs on this record are about different people I’ve connected with throughout the time I was making this. I worked with my college roommate, Jamison Baken, my dear friend from Manchester, Andy Gannon, and an old friend from college, Jesse Munsat.
(Jesse - “Just Fade”, Jamison / Andy - “DONTCOMEBACK”, “Everett Park”, "Nightlife”, “Temporary Feeling”)
I love the description you provide on your website: "My songs are made to listen to while you’re driving in your car, right before sunset when the sky is just turning orange, with the windows down, and your hair is flowing in the breeze." What do you hope audiences will think/feel when listening to your music?
I hope that the listener feels like they are just having a conversation with a close friend. I want people to find comfort and adventure in my music.
Do you come from a musical family, or are you a trailblazer in that regard? What has your musical journey been like?
My family loves music, but no one in my immediate family plays music as a profession. My brother played piano in middle school and I have one cousin that still plays guitar. My family has been very supportive throughout my music adventures. I feel so lucky that my mom signed me up for guitar lessons in third grade and drove me around to all of my rock band rehearsals and shows until I got my license in high school. After high school, I attended USC for popular music performance and started touring junior year. I continued touring, playing gigs, and writing music after college.
You've done quite a bit of touring. What would you say have been some of the highlights of your musical career thus far?
Touring is so much fun. I love traveling and meeting people all around the world. I’ve met so many amazing people and learned so much about music and life and culture. It is so interesting to see how you connect with people of different regions through music.
What’s next on the horizon for you? What are you most looking forward to in 2022?
I will be putting out acoustic versions of the songs on the EP at the end of summer, along with videos. I’m playing a few shows in NYC in July to promote the EP and am also currently working on the next collection of songs.
Is there anyone who you’d like to give a shout-out to?
I would love to say thank you to my main collaborators, Jamison Baken and Andy Gannon! And also my loving family and friends. Love you all so much.
