Weekend Roundup
A Recap of Events in the Valley Arts District
(3/18 - 3/20)
By Patricia Rogers
This was another jam-packed weekend with fun events from our favorite locals! It was all about live music in the Valley Arts District this weekend.
It kicked off with Al Gold presents a Howlin' Wolf tribute [Fri. 3/18] featuring Dean Shot, Steve Guyler, Gary Wright, Big Mike Devita and the Solid Senders. Friday night, the HCK [Hat City Kitchen] blues crowd came to enjoy blues favorites like "Smokestack Lightnin'," "Back Door Man," "Killing Floor" and "Spoonful."
The lovely ladies of Marafanyi hosted their monthly Drum Dance & Song Workshop at the Firehouse Gallery [Sat. 3/19] with a good turn out and participation.
Mike Griot presents The Return of Reggae night at Hat City Kitchen [Sat. 3/19]! [In August 2015] Kiwi released a new album and a performance featuring Josh David Barrett from the Wailers. This night has always been popular with reservations and a line out the door. This installment was no different.
Al Gold hosts his monthly blues jam Sunday afternoon [3/20], and this week it was all about girl power. I noticed there were more female singers and musicians. Women brought the charisma, power-packed voice and an overall good time.
There is always art, music and community events happening here in New Jersey's Valley Arts District.
