Hat City Kitchen: The Official Afterparty for New York Rumble Home Games!
By Patricia Rogers
Hat City Kitchen is now the official afterparty spot for the New York Rumble home games! Last week the Ultimate Frisbee team opened their season playing in their new stadium here in Orange, Bell Stadium. The world’s fastest growing sport was invented right here in Essex County. There is now a professional league with the New York area team, The Rumble. The game was invented in 1968 at Columbia High School.
Last Saturday [April 16th] for their second game, the restaurant was packed with post-game excitement. I liked seeing the diversity in the crowd that enjoys Ultimate Frisbee, being able to witness such camaraderie, and being a part of welcoming the sport to Orange, and Hat City Kitchen.
Upcoming New York Rumble home game schedule:
- Saturday, April 16 Boston Wildcats at New York Rumble
- Sunday, May 1 D.C. Current at New York Rumble
- Sunday, May 7 Philadelphia Spinners at New York Rumble
- Sunday, June 5 Boston Wildcats at New York Rumble
From the New York Rumble Website:
"With the stadium move into Orange, NJ we have placed a strong emphasis on connecting with the local community," said Billy Sickles, MLU Partnership Development Associate. “Hat City Kitchen was a perfect fit given it’s history of community involvement and its proximity to Bell Stadium, not mention it’s great food, drink, and atmosphere.”
In 2010, Hat City Kitchen was rated “Best New Restaurant” by New Jersey Monthly Critic’s Choice, a great recognition for a restaurant whose profits go back into the Valley Arts District revitalization activities.
“Hat City Kitchen and HANDS agreed to work with Major League Ultimate to bring focus to the area as the ‘birthplace’ of ultimate frisbee,” said Patrick Morrissy, Executive Director of Hat City Kitchen and HANDS. “Our neighboring town, Maplewood, is the home of Columbia High School where Frisbee was introduced into the curriculum in 1968 and the creation of “Columbia High School Varsity Frisbee Squad” in early 1970. So, having the games played at Bell Stadium in Orange, N.J. is in close proximity to Hat City Kitchen to enjoy the great food, drinks and music."
