Coffee Works Acoustic Show
Wed. Dec. 14, 2016, 6pm, Voorhees, NJ
By Alex Bradley
Although musical performances are held at Coffee Works Too multiple nights a week, including both karaoke and open mic night, shows that include five or more acoustic acts are usually only held once a month. I have booked the next acoustic showcase taking place at this cozy coffee shop, for next Wednesday, December 14th, beginning at 6pm. The showcase features old time local favorites as well as some newer faces to the local music scene. The lineup includes Josh O’Hara, Old City Revival, Jefferson Spin, Gin War, and lastly, Ben Greenblatt.
Josh O’Hara, a singer/songwriter from Southhampton Township in NJ, will be kicking off the showcase. He is also the frontman, as well as guitar player, in the ambient, emo-rock band known as Downer, from Tabernacle, NJ. Josh has been releasing his independent music since 2012 and continues to release his original, angsty, yet chill music frequently. He has recently continued his series of yearly, “A Below Average Christmas” EP’s, with the release of his third addition on December 1st, under Cheap Plastic Records.
Next up on the bill is the three-piece, indie/alt-rock band from Cinnaminson, NJ, Old City Revival. While being a band since 2014, and putting out their first single “Surroundings” in March of 2015, their matured sound and incredible production/mastering on their most recent full length album “This Is A Beautiful Painting” is destined to blow you away! These independent musicians paired up together to create a unique sound made up of pure angst and blissfulness.
Chuck Minix will be making his debut performance under his newest project, Jefferson Spin. Chuck has been very proactive in the local music scene for the past years, with being in multiple hardcore projects such as Cool Out and Three Week Old Roses. He is now testing the waters with creating more alternative music under the name of “Jefferson Spin,” and is doing a damn good job at it. While instrumentally being comparable to Turnover, his raw, unique vocals are his of his own; and the combination of the both of them create an indulgent and intriguing sound of it’s own. Anticipation is high for seeing what’s to come for Jefferson Spin!
Gin War is a three-piece from Long Beach, NJ, transcendently debauched indie rock, angular and melodic in equal measure. They have previously toured alongside of Man Overboard on their “Farewell For Now” Tour and will shortly begin their tour with Save Face from NJ. Gin War’s last release was “Piece of the Moon,” which came out a little over a year ago in November. It contains 5 songs, all harmonically rich, while giving off a mellow yet, almost beachy vibe.
Ben Greenblatt is a solo, acoustic artist from Voorhees, NJ, who happens to still be in high school while having no problem making a name for himself. He has released two EP’s in the last two years, and sprung his very own music community with booking shows in the Sunroom of his house and formed Sunroom Booking. His music, while containing some sad lyrics, which are all too real, possesses a catchy, sing-along undertone which makes for a perfect fit for the showcase.
