Interview with Nick Moretti of Parkwood

By Sean McCall

S.M.: Can you talk about how you first got into music leading up to Parkwood?

Nick Moretti:  I was around people that played music and instruments with my friends.  So we just got a few people together and decided to make a band called Varity.  We joined the Hammonton music scene slowly but surely.  Then Jorge scooped me and Brandon out of that and Varity slowly disintegrated, and we joined Parkwood.  That's how it all started.

How long has Parkwood been a band?  Who are the members?

Since 2012.  I wasn't in the band yet, but it was Mario DiPaolo, Brandon Crowther, Jorge Estrada, and Nick Gelone.  Now it's me, Jorge, Nick Gelone, and Brandon Beckley.

How did you guys meet?

I've known Jorge from the music scene.  I was a fan of Parkwood before I was in it, and I'd listen to them.  Jorge asked me to jam with him and Nick, so we did.  We needed another guitarist, and I was best friends with Brandon at the time, so we asked him and it worked out.

How long have you been making music?

I'd say we've been writing for over a year now, but Jorge has had stuff we'd been working on for awhile.  We've had songs that were written for almost 2 years.  We're writing a new EP and we've been writing for almost a year now.  We just finished recording with Eric at Sleep Audio

Talk about Parkwood right now and what's to come for you guys in the future.

We just finished recording our EP.  We're trying to write new stuff, finish the recordings, and play shows.  We're getting everything ready for a release show at some point in the future.

Do you guys have any shows coming up?

Not as of right now.  We were playing SADfest but the date got pushed back to summer.  Jorge is playing an acoustic show for Grandaire Spotlight soon by himself though.

Describe your sound.

I guess I'd say alternative/emo, if I had to put a genre to it.

Is there anything you want to add?
